Getting Started with Ancient Mega Pack
Ancient Mega Pack (AMP) completely transforms Baldur's Gate 3's progression system.
Instead of finding the same equipment in the same locations every playthrough, AMP randomizes rewards across a massive pool of over 2,500 handcrafted artifacts. Chests, bosses, merchants, quest rewards, and hidden treasures all pull from randomized loot tables.
This means every campaign develops differently. The gear you find will influence your build, forcing you to adapt rather than follow the same path every run.

Before Starting
Start a New Game
AMP is not designed to be installed mid-playthrough.
The mod replaces:
-
Loot tables
-
Merchant inventories
-
Boss rewards
-
Quest rewards
-
Equipment progression
Installing AMP on an existing save can lead to missing rewards and broken progression. Always begin a fresh campaign.
Find the Training Ring
After appearing at the Nautiloid, the Training Ring will automatically be in your inventory.
This item acts as the central hub for AMP's systems and features.
The Training Ring allows you to:
-
Spawn training dummies

Unlock Ultra Mode early
Understanding AMP Loot
Forget everything you know about item locations in vanilla BG3.
In AMP:
-
Bosses drop randomized rewards.
-
Chests contain randomized artifacts.
-
Merchants sell randomized inventories.
-
Quest rewards are randomized.
You are not expected to chase specific items. Instead, successful players build around the gear they discover.
Core Systems
AMP revolves around four major systems. Learning how they work together is the key to mastering the mod.
Void Capsules
Targeted loot containers that allow players to focus rewards on specific item slots or themes. When you need a new weapon or a particular armor type, Void Capsules give you control over what kind of loot you receive — though the exact item is still randomized.
Planar Coins
A special currency dropped by bosses throughout the game. Planar Coins are used to activate Void Capsules and access other endgame features. They are meant to be spent, not hoarded — more on that below.
Runic Shards
Consumable enchantments that let you customize and upgrade your equipment. A well-enchanted uncommon item can rival or even outperform higher-rarity gear, so never overlook what Runic Shards can do for your current loadout.
Ancient Orbs
Powerful elemental artifacts that grant passive bonuses and active abilities. Each orb is tied to an element, and combining orbs with the right gear can unlock devastating synergies. Finding an orb often reshapes your entire build direction.
Recommended First Difficulty
For most players, start on Normal difficulty.
Normal mode is where AMP is balanced and provides the intended experience.
-
Choose Casual if you want to experiment freely with builds and mechanics.
-
Choose Hard only if you're already familiar with AMP's systems and enjoy a challenge.
Beginner Mistakes to Avoid
Hoarding Planar Coins
Many new players save Planar Coins indefinitely, waiting for a "perfect" moment to spend them. Resist this urge — Coins exist to strengthen your current build. Spend them when you need an upgrade, and you'll earn more as you progress.
Ignoring Runic Shards
Runic Shards are easy to overlook, but they're one of the most impactful tools in AMP. A well-enchanted item can outperform gear of a higher rarity. Check your Runic Shard inventory regularly and invest in the equipment you're actively using.
Following Vanilla Build Guides
AMP fundamentally changes the itemization in BG3. Trying to force a specific build based on vanilla item locations often leads to frustration. Treat every run as an opportunity to experiment and adapt.
Final Advice
The biggest mindset change in AMP is learning to embrace randomness.
Instead of asking:
"Where do I find this item?"
Ask:
"How can I build around this item?"
Players who make this transition usually enjoy AMP the most. Every run becomes its own story, shaped by the gear you discover and the decisions you make along the way.
